Oh dear. ADHD given some credance?

I've just heard on radio that a tenuous genetic link has been found regarding ADHD.
If it's genetic, why has it only surfaced in recent years and only in certain countries ?
I can assure you that such a 'predisposed' child who was brought up by my parents or with Meg and I, would not have gone on to show symptoms of their 'disorder'.
If things weren't bad enough already, parents will now seize on this as 'proof' of their kid's behaviour. |

Couldn't agree more....when we were little if we were naughty we got a smack on the bum. Now kids are medicated, labelled and pigeonholed and excused for vile behaviour. |

Not often that you agree with me K !
I'm no scientist but as research into genes progresses, they could put us off bothering to live our lives. 'They' will inform us that we and our children are predisposed to so many conditions that we will retreat to living in caves. |

Well really that's right....and anyway how much of our behaviour is learned?
Maybe we should all have blood tests and if our kids aren't going to be perfect, well just don't have any.
Pfffffffft. |

Aaargh ! I'm listening to BBC radio 4 and there was a debate on this subject here whilst I could see MP on my sound- muted telly getting interviewed on breakfast telly. :(
The debate revealed amongst other things, that the genetic link is VERY tenuous.
I went to primary school in the sixties and there were over 40 children in my classes. I can genuinely say that I can't remember any 'behavioural' problems in class that weren't dealt with without detriment to others. |

I also think that a lot of the crap in processed foods and artificial this and that doesn't help much either.
And by the way.....what's with all the kids developing early now? When I was young girls didn't develop until they were 15 or so. Now you see girls with huge boobs at 10 or 11. I reckon it's all the genetically modified garbage they eat.

Steroid-fed chicken breast in their foods? Another ramification of humans having more in their diets thereby growing an average of 1/4 inch of height per generation?

I watched this in June. I posted about it shortly afterward. I love my grub, but after watching this movie, Food Inc. I have eaten red meat twice since June and I eat chicken rarely, mostly I eat fruit and fish. I hope you all get the chance to watch it, there are 11 parts.
Also I read Diet for a Hot Planet. Similar message to Food Inc. There is a segment in the movie about Montsano, Soybeans and a Patent, very scary!
I will add that parts of this movie are upsetting, especially if you are an animal lover. |
