Re: Wikileaks by kazzzz on 30 November 2010 12:23pm
Well I never thought anything until today coz i hadn't even heard about it until you told me about it tonight Mike!
Just don't blame me, OK?
Re: Wikileaks by suzulu on 30 November 2010 1:39pm
Nothing is secret any more with the internet. Worrying.
Re: Wikileaks by johnnythemonkey on 30 November 2010 2:04pm
I've got a few secrets.
Re: Wikileaks by Spursfan on 30 November 2010 2:36pm
I think they ought to get a Wikiplumber.

Seriously though, I am in two minds about it all. Part of me thinks yep, we SHOULD know all this stuff. The other half thinks it isn't a good idea for volatile nations (especially) to know everything about other nations. And I think the latter half of me is winning the argument.

I posted this link yesterday in the other thread, the editor of the NY Times explains very clearly the process they used when deciding what and what not to print.

I agree with Anne, but I think we need to know backdoor deals like Iran and N. Korea nukes deals. There are ethics prohibiting US Journalists from printing all of the cables, and they have to adhere to them, so Freedom of the Press really doesn't extend into areas such as national security. I am sure the European papers have somewhat similar ethical guidelines?

Democracy Now does a great job of explaining this. According to Dan Esellberg, the guy who was the whistle blower on the Pentagon Papers, Barrack Obama is aggressively pursuing the Espionage Act to prevent cables being printed.

Nobody is telling you the truth. Even if they say that it's truth, it's not - or not the whole truth anyway. It's just someone will benefit from you knowing it.
Personally, I'm not interested.

On the news here today they say Interpol is declaring Julian Assange a 'Wanted Person' because of a rape and sexual assault charge. He says he's part of a smear campaign. I would hate to be in his shoes right now. I wonder how much money he made on this "Cable Gate" and if he thinks it was worth it?
Re: Wikileaks by Wild in Africa on 1 December 2010 4:15pm
Julian Assange is a freakin international hero and should be supported and protected by all right thinking people against the military-industrial complex that hates to see its dirty laundry aired so openly.
Re: Wikileaks by Loretto on 1 December 2010 5:26pm
Not my opinion here WIA, just the counter argument; Some people are happier just letting the governments of the world go about their daily business and letting non-government people do their own thing. According to Dan Ellsberg, Assange has endangered no one's life by releasing the cables.

Personally I'd like to know when and if he committed the rape and sexual assault allegations he's being charged with, and along with that; why has Interpol left it until two days after Cable Gate to declare Assange a wanted man?
