Facebook issues

Just wondering if anyone else has had issues with FB? Last week I was notified that I had two messages from FB friends, opened the messages and they were not from the people at all! My computer has it's fifth and final virus. I think the messages infected my computer. I might deactivate FB, will miss it terribly though. |

I haven't had those problems no Loretto, but you're the 4th person on my friends list to say this exact thing this week.
The security there is dire. |

I had one message this week in my email from, supposedly, Facebook, saying I had a message from one of my friends. This message was only in my email but not on my Facebook wall. |

I received about thirty notification e-mail messages using all of your names when I first signed up, but all of them were software generated. I have been notified about alla the Facebook stuff when they happened and have received none since. I won't hesitate to withdraw if you guys won't be there.

I know Pete I'd hate to leave FB as I think it is a great way to stay in touch with people. In fact I have become really close to my nephews and nieces because of FB, but every time I get a virus the computer costs $300 or more to fix. I won't leave yet, but my lap tap is dome!! So let's see what I can get instead, that computer is five years old now!!
The live chats are what will keep me there guys :-) |

The last infection I got was solved with a system restore, then I had time to track it's noxious traces in the registry. Gone. The patience to do this saved me some money.

Pete those notification emails can be disabled in your account settings. You basically have to disable them for everything.
I'm staying on facebook. :) |

I deleted my FB account when it advised me to make friends with a former colleague of mine in whom I have no interest whatsoever. I know it's just because I have his email address in my address book, but it irrationally irritated me quite a bit.
In Russia we have similar social network ("Vkontakte"), but I'm not registered there either - possibly the only two people in Russia who don't have accounts there are me and my Mam (71). LOL
I basically don't want to keep in touch I think. |

I resisted FB for ages because I definitely don't need to be spending more time on the computer but finally gave in when so many pictures I wanted to see of important dogs in my breed were only available there.
Within 2 days of registering, my computer was infected with a terrible virus despite the up-to-date and expensive virus protection that I'd installed on it. I can't prove that the virus came from FB but the timing is suggestive. After several trips to the computer doctor (who supposedly had eradicated the virus), the computer was declared dead. The virus may be what killed my motherboard but I can't prove that either without spending even more money to try to figure it out. I've now switched to Mac with the hopes that it will be less vulnerable to viruses.
I've misplaced my FB password so I haven't been back but I have a lot of "friend" requests from old friends that I have to deal with so as to not offend anyone. Does anyone have a link to simple instructions to how to best protect yourself on FB?
BTW, another computer issue that has recently come up: I've had my e-mail address listed here in Vitals for years but with several spaces inserted. I never had any problem because those spaces used to be enough to protect yourself from data miners but no more. Apparently, the bad guys searching websites have learned how to program around that. Webbie kindly took my address out of my listing. If you still have your address listed, you might think about having it removed. |
