A crazy idea? by cinstone on 30 December 2011 11:59pm

Is it? You tell me.

Being a great fan of Around the World in 80 days, earlier this year I got to thinking of doing something a little crazy.

The idea is to go "Around Great Britain in 80 Similarities" by Land Rover.

Thus it would start outside the Reform Club in London and then progress around the country travelling to places with the same names as places visited in Jules Vernes & Michaels books, with added research gained from watching the film and the T.V series.

For example, there's a Los Angeles & California in Birmingham.

The idea would be, using information gained from both books, film and series, compile 80 locations in the British Isles that have the same name as 80 locations visited, or past through as mentioned in both books, the film and the series.

To this end, earlier this year I read Michaels book again, as well as Jueles Vernes original (for the first time) and noted all the places both had visited.

The next stage was to then research to see if there was 80 such names to places in the U.K, but then, with other things going on my list was put to one side.

Now if only I could remember where I put it!

If you know of any place names the same as used in the books, T.v & film, let me know.

One day I might just get around to doing it.

A belated Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to you all.

Chris.

Yes, it's a crazy idea. Noone would be interested apart from yourself.

Great reply.

You've just given me a thought. I don't get on here much, but with a reply like that, perhaps it's not worth bothering at all.

You asked for opinions and I gave you mine 'Chris'.

Indeed I did ask, but in your original replay you included an expleative. Was there any need for that?

Also, I'm not asking anyone to come along, but I thought the idea of being on here was to talk about travel and travelling???

You mean expletive ? Do one letter and three asterisks mean expletive to you ? Go forth and multiply.

Hi cinstone. You should ignore Sonny Syde. He was banned from the site under another name some time ago and he is rude to everybody on the site. Your view of not bothering to come onto the site is one taken by many as it used to be more active than it is now. I blame the likes of Sonny Syde.

I think your idea would work better in the USA as there are numerous places whose names are taken from locations in other parts of the world (mainly UK and Europe I think).

He was banned because of boring f**ts, cinstone.

[And before you ask, I am not his mother/sister/wife/lover/wife/daughter/auntie/nanna. Just someone who has a sense of humour and likes a bit of banter herself]

Cheers Ken.

Yes I see where you are coming from, but that's a bit to far to go on the odd day or two away.

Sonny: Then what was the "one letter and three *'s meant to be then?

Spursfan2: I just don't see the need. An added expleative, swear word or letter and however many *'s included to a sentance isn't always hilarious comedy.
