Self Publishing with e-books

OK, I feel like a complete heel now because when Michael Palin's book came out I said well done and at least he didn't have to resort to Unbound books; a dirty dig at Terry Jones. Not nice. Sorry Terry and Unbound books.
I have done a bit of research, thanks to Pete, and found out that e-books has a huge audience and is also a way to be environmentally friendly.
It turns out that in the US alone there are 40 million e-readers and 65 million ipads. That's a big audience.
I will register with a fundraising website called Kickstarter to do some fundraising in order to put out the very best quality version of the first manuscript.
Here's the website link for kickstarter:

There was talk of it becomming international, but up until last August it was US only. So back to Unbound books.
Unbound Books is based in the UK and you pitch them your storyline and sponsors support you if they like it. Once you have reached your goal they start publishing your book.
Here's their website link:

Booktango is the way I think I'm headed. For around $2,000 US I have an editor, cover design, global marketing with Barnes and Noble's Nook, Kindle etc.
Here's their website:

I don't know if anyone remembers the following, but the best description I can give you about the plot of the first manuscript is, think of Wuthering Heights, Against the Wind, Poldark and Trinity rolled into one. Not too ambitious, huh? |

Never pay someone for self publishing! If they demand payment, run, don't walk in the opposite direction. I publish on Amazon and it is free... You also get 70% Royalties when you sell. |

Seriously?!?! I never even thought of Amazon! Does that mean that your books can be downloaded to e-readers also Mike?
Thanks for the tip btw! |

Loretto, that's correct. Two of my next books are shorts, that will be ebook only. |

I've seen Kickstarter before. Unbound looks like an interesting concept. People actually bid on the idea of your book. Book Tango, seems to have some other services. Some look as though they may be helpful, but No, do not PAY someone to publish your book. I may look into Unbound with something I have in mind.
The Judge, aka Elaine is looking over the sites now. |

Hey, maybe we should pitch our idea for our collection of short stories to Unbound? :-)
Journeys
A short Story Collection From Around The World |

Loretto, you are a genius, I am but a lonely slug. That is a grand idea, as you would say. :)
Elaine likes Unbound, the other one, had too many "ifs" for her liking. The Mistress of the Keyboard hath spoken, I shall do my duty. |

LOL, why couldn't all my teachers and college professors have seen what you see Mike? WHY?
Wouldn't that be fun though? All our stories collected in a book? A Group of writers who have never met collaborating on a book with the forward written by Michael Palin.
I SAID WITH THE FORWARD WRITTEN BY MICHAEL PALIN!!!!! |

Loretto, what I see is life experience. Sometimes, those in Academia, especially the Liberal Arts miss certain things. My father was a Chemistry Professor; another world. So much of this is through his eyes and my life experience.
We have nothing to lose, let's put this together and use Unbound for it. |
