Cappadoica by Spursfan2 on 9 November 2012 9:54am
We are off to Turkey tomorrow with a couple of friends for 2 weeks. We leave here at 8.30 a.m., and are flying from Stansted as usual.

On 13th November we're flying internally to Kayseri, and then driving to Cappadocia for 5 days. We've been twice before but it is the first time for our friends, also we have never been there at this time of the year.

Probably do a balloon ride while we are there - Zak and Veronica definitely want to; Steve definitely doesn't and as for me - should I? I am really scared of heights (though I love flying) - but I seem to think I would enjoy it? Zak has done one before (I bought him a flight for his 50th) and says it is great. It is just too much money for me to wimp out at the last second, so I need to make up my mind beforehand.

I'll let you know when I get back what happened...!!

[Be good while I'm away, btw....]

Turkey ? Delightful!
I was offered a balloon ride as a bday pressie a few years back Anne, l declined coz l thought that there was a fair chance that l'd chicken out at the last minute.
I opted for a treadmill instead.

Anne, Great place, one of the most unusual places on earth, If you have not done it yet go south a few miles to the underground city of Deriyenku (probably spelt it wrong) if you are claustrophobic dont bother, but if not, its brilliant and you will not find anywhere else like it. enjoy.

Wheelrim - we have visited most of the sites before, including an underground city (can't remember the name!!). Most of the time we were shown round by friends of ours who live (or lived) in Kayseri. This time we are hoping to meet up again with friendsfrom Kayseri but at the end of our trip (we're staying a night in Kayseri before we fly back to where our apartment is.)

At the risk of boring JtM (!!):

Our first visit to Cappadocia was in 1988, when our daughter was 15 and our son 12. We basically spent a week touring (Pammukale, Cappadocia, Konya, Istanbul - all places that we have visited again and again). When we arrived in Neveshir we did what we always did - sought out the local Tourist Information. The girl in there was very helpful, and advsed us on accommodation.

The next day we went to one of the sights which was a monument, and found that the steps to it were blocked off, because there was a film crew. Zak particularly wanted to see this, so he spoke to the crew, saying we'd come all the way from England to see it. Eventually they let him up (I wasn't going to anyway, too high!!). While he was looking at the spot, one of the extras came up and said 'do you remember me?' - it was the girl from Tourist Info!!

Years and years later we saw the film on TV - a strange film.

Have a great time Anne.

Yes...have a great time Anne. As for the balloon ride; save your money and ask Zak and your friends to video the ride. If they capture some of the take-off, a few panoramic views, and the landing, you can enjoy it every time Zak relives it.

The more they record, the more you will enjoy it...from the safety and comfort of being on the ground. Ask them to be sure to get some footage of everyone on board.

How will the balloon manage to take off without you talking into it , Anne ?
Re: Cappadoica by Spursfan2 on 9 November 2012 10:54pm
Oh don't worry John. Zak will still be aboard - and he can talk for England, believe me!!

BUT that doesn't mean I am letting you get awat with that remark........!!!

I can't believe that Zak can talk more than you, Anne ! No one can talk more than me. I have Duracell batteries plus A.C.

Hope you both have a great time, Anne.
