For Mr. Palin, A Train Fan, who Chose the Bus. by tucsonmike on 28 December 2013 10:11pm

Mr. Palin, this sounds like an oxymoron, does it not? I was back in my native city of Brooklyn, New York recently. My Mom and I had to make a day trip to Philadelphia.
Philadelphia is 85 miles from New York. In Europe, this would have been a no brainer; the train, of course. Not in the Northeastern United States, where the Amtrak supposed high speed train, Acela is not much faster than the bus, but much more expensive. The "slower" Northeast Regional Train takes the same amount of time as the bus. Round trip fare for my mother and I? Two hundred twelve dollars. (My mother is 77 years old, so that includes a senior rate). The Greyhound Bus round trip? Forty-nine dollars, it was comfortable and non stop.
Mr. Palin, knowing your love of trains, is the reason I am writing this. What can I say, it's a shame. I will really be embarrassed, if Mexico goes through with their planned high speed railway between Mexico City and Guadalajara. There is a moral to this tale, and when I settle on one, I will let you know. Thank you for allowing me to vent.
