One good thing about the internet ... by Ken Dunn on 2 May 2017 7:47am

Usually when I go onto the internet and find some useful information, the information is usually about half a page or so. When I go to print this half page my printer shows it is going to print up to 5 pages worth of stuff along with the bit I want. This other stuff is usually adverts, links to other stuff and some of the terms and conditions of the website being used.

This morning I asked Google for 'Jersey bus routes' and the first contact gave me a Liberty Bus route map for the island. When I went to print, the information was contained on only one page! With no adverts or other gobbledeygook I would like to thank 'libertybus' in Jersey for providing me with the information I need for our holiday very easily without reams of superfluous information.

Thank you Libertybus.

Another good thing about the internet is that there is free Tetris available on it and I have just scored 227,676. My previous highest score was 169,000 approx.

When it comes to advantages and disadvantages of the internet, I think the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.

Oh dear! I saw The Death of Stalin DVD on Mr P's other website and decided to buy it there. I went through all the ordering details but before doing too much I checked the total cost. At this check it looked like free postage. Once I filled in all the details and got to the bottom of the page at the total cost a new box had appeared showing a delivery charge over and above the original total shown. I don't like this practice and think an indicator of the delivery cost should show at the total box before all details have to be entered. Fortunately the current data protection rules prevent the use of my data for spam or nuisance phone calls.

To make it worse a google search for the DVD found it for half price on another website. I think I'll wait until I see the DVD in a charity shop and buy it then!

So this experience on the internet has increased the income of a charity shop sometime in the future.
