Just in time for the adverts.!? by Ken Dunn on 6 June 2018 10:19am

I watch quite a bit of TV these days and with so many channels I try to pick or find something of interest that will keep me entertained for half an hour or so. Most of what is on does not interest me because it's not to my taste. I do like sport and comedy sitcoms and now know what Freeview channels tend to show these types of programmes.

Unfortunately there are very few channels that don't do adverts - the BBC last week was accused of advertising its own programmes; which it does - I've got to agree!

This morning i remembered that the tennis from Roland Garros is being covered by ITV4 and when I switched on the TV I was ... just in time for the adverts!

Other very good programmes have lengthy advert intervals in the middle and during this interval I'll do some channel hopping. During this activity I'll find about 6 other channels where 5 out of the 6 is ... just in time for the adverts. (The sixth one will be the BBC News and I've already seen the headlines!) Going back to the very good programme I'm ... just in time for the last 2 adverts of its interval.

The content of all the adverts I do happen to notice during this exercise is the subject for another topic altogether - or is it?

I quite like the adverts - Zak doesn't !! Some make me laugh, some cry - particularly ones about cruelty to animals or dogs needing a home - some are just spectacular! It's a running joke between us that I know the words to some of the ads and sing along! lol

I've found a way to avoid the TV adverts when channel hopping at certain times - go to radio station! The one I'm on just now is Classic FM.

I have a solution to the 'Just in time for the adverts.' problem. While channel hopping to find something interesting to watch and you do while the adverts are on, go to a radio channel and listen to music for up to 5 minutes. If the music is more interesting than the channel you were going to watch stay with it. Otherwise go back to the channel that had the adverts on during the interesting programme you found.
