Basil Pao's photography by Palinite14 on 22 August 2003 11:32pm

Does anyone else share my view that Basil Pao is the best photographer ever? His photos are so, so good! The books of Sahara and Pole to Pole are absolutely a treat to look at (I haven't got my hands on the Full Circle photobook yet, which looks to be the best of all..) Basil's gorgeous, atmospheric photos are the perfect companion to Michael Palin's text...does anybody know of any other books he has done? And does anybody have a favourite Palin-series photo that they would like to sing the praises of? I must admit it is a tough choice to make though. But, if you haven't already seen the photogalleries on this website, I would advise you to do so as they are absolutely stunning.

I absolutely agree. Basil's incredible photos and Michael's words go together like bread and butter.. like peanut butter and jelly... like otters and oysters....
You can tell they are good friends, too.
Isn't it a great thing that Basil's work is so generously offered on this site?
Amen.

i dont no if these pics are on the site but i think the pics in pages 188, 196, 197, 200 & 201 of sahara are worth dying for, on 188, where michael is holding the baby gazelle is beautiful. Every time i look at the pictures on pages 196 & 200, it takes my breath away.
i wish i could take pictures like his

I completely agree about the baby gazelle photo, it is just gorgeous! As I said yesterday it's a very tough choice to make but this one has to be my favourite. Beautiful, just beautiful...

I've bought the book for my mother. This is the ultimate test. If SHE likes it... (talk about a tough crowd...)

(It's always so much fun to force people to read books...)

Three postings to the same topic may be over the top but..do you think they'd make the baby gazelle photo into a poster? I am sure there'd be no shortage of takers. I love that picture, I love that picture, I love that picture...

After being an avid - bordering on lunatic obsessive - fan of Michaels travels since 'Around the world in 80 days' was first aired in the UK, it has just sunk into my apparently granite skull, that it is THE Basil that Michael meets in HK that takes such beautiful photos!! Basil I want your job:)
