The Chatter Box : The Series
80 Days DVD by thomasmbrooks30 on 26 August 2003 2:55pm
OK, I am thoroughly confused. Previous messages say that with the 80 Days DVD we will be getting the whole series, but on the review of the DVD on amazon.co.uk, it says that the DVD lasts 395 minutes, but that the series lasted 8 hours (divided into 10 episodes). Where are the other 85 minutes? That's still a huge hunk taken out of the series! If we don't get the whole series, then why bother to buy the DVD? It seems mildly pointless to hand over our hard-earned when they're only giving us an extra half an hour! I really like the series, but I want to see all of it! Will I have to wait until the BBC can be bothered to repeat it yet again to have my wish fulfilled?

Sorry to be so negative but it really gets my goat!!!!

from Michael Palin's introduction to 80 days elsewhere on this site (http://www.palinstravels.co.uk/static-98-1):

80 days was seven 50 minute episodes. That makes a total of 350 minutes, so the running time on the DVD of 395 minutes would indicate to me 45 ADDDITIONAL minutes of footage (along the same vein as Sahara DVD, I'd imagine). Don't feel glum, rejoice!

Or, at the very least cite your source for 80 days being 8 hours long...
