Sahara De Ja Vu by pholdom on 31 August 2003 8:13pm

I've been reading Michael's book, "SAHARA" and it took me back to my own trip to Mali and Burkina Faso in January 2001. We stayed at the same hotel in Mopti, visited the same Dogon village(s,(I recognized the village where the dances are performed from a picture in the book, very much like one I took), and stayed in the same hotel in Timbuktu. Timbuktu has a wonderful conservation library of very old manuscripts which Michael didn't mention. You have to get special permission to see it. I believe they received a Harvard grant to collect and restore these books.
