'go as you please' plane tickets by kidjuxta on 30 January 2004 11:08pm
Does anyone happen to have any info about how these tickets work? I want to go to America but don't know when exactly i'd want to return to the UK within the three months before i'd need a visa...

I've used similar. "Open Jaw tickets" they're usually called. You decide the return flight date when you want, when you're ever there . But it does not guarantee you'll get the exact date you want. You have to take into account the time of year, and if it the routes will be busy or not.

I dont tend to use them anymore,as i just tend to buy one way tickets nowadays and then make it up as i go along. But on one "Open Jaw ticket" trip, i changed the date on two occasions as i kept changing my mind. Some airlines will charge you for that privelege. Some wont charge. Some wont allow it fullstop, and once you make a booking on the return leg of the jaw, that's it basically. You have to get all this straight with the airline, before you decide to buy the ticket. And with Open Jaw, you can fly out of a different place on the return part of the journey. For example, i once flew into San Jose in Costa Rica, and then flew out of San Pedro Sula in Honduras, back to the UK. I could of chosen Guatemala city if i'd wanted. The price would of been the same. They give you quite a lot of freedom.
