Purchasing & Playing DVDs in the US by eamon on 25 February 2004 9:31pm

Like many US residents I have been frustrated by the lack of availablity of Palin's travel DVDs for Region 1. However, I recently ordered & received both a region-free DVD Player and Around The World In 80 Days and they work just fine here in the US.

I would recommend the following sites as they both provided excellent service:

www.regioncodefreedvd.com for the DVD player - I paid $169 for a JVC model (XV-NV50BK). BEWARE: You will find the same players cheaper at other locations but it is likely they haven't been upgraded to support multi-regions.

www.amazon.co.uk for the Palin DVDs (plus any other Region 2 DVDs that you can't get in the US). They ship to the US (www.play.com doesn't) and they also remove the VAT Tax which is a nice touch. The only bummer is that the US/GB exchange rate at the moment is pretty high for US residents. Hope that helps. Now I'm really looking forward to watching Pole To Pole within the next few weeks ...
