From the Pit of Despair... by Palinite14 on 12 March 2004 5:47pm

I am so fed up!!!!!!!!!!!!!I saw the literary agent whom I'd sent my Manuscript of my Novel to, and they didn't even MENTION taking it on (or not)...I was just told I had 'promise' and given some website addresses for writing courses.....

It's not the agent's fault at all, I'm probably just a really bad writer, but OH MY GOD! Why? Why me? Forgive me if I am ranting here, but this thing was THREE YEARS in the writing, nearly a quarter of my life...I am SO MISERABLE!!

Sorry, this is a website for the lovely Michael Palin and not one for people to moan about their personal problems on, but I have nobody to complain to...nobody at all....:(
Can someone say something happy to me? I feel like going to live in a Hole for twenty years....

Few bits of advice:

Contact said agent again and get some constructive feedback.

Scour as many works as you possibly can.

Never give in. If you merit being published, one day you will be. If not, well, writing is its own reward.

Three years is nearly a quarter of your life?! Then you're REALLY doing okay, bubbe!

You've got it together for your age! Trust me! You already submitted a work to an agent AND got a (short) audience with them.

Just remember - MP was 52(?) when he got his first novel published.

I'm sure you'll have better luck in the near future :)

Treck on Hipolito, don't be too upset by the wee countercurrent.

'Promise', what an ambiguous thing to say, it is a good remark, though I know that I would wish for something more critical. As JK said.

Carry on, please, noo little dispairing bits.
