I went swimming with dolphins at the X-Caret nature center in Cancun, Mexico...It was a better program than the ones in the theme parks in Florida

Thanks lilomoony! Yeah, I have read about the ones in Florida, they put me off immediately which is why I was looking for alternatives! What does the program in Cancun consist of?

I went to Mexico approx. four years ago...so I don't really remember what the program was exactly...but I'm sure you will be able to find all the details if you e-mail the travel director at http://www.xcaret.com/

Sparkle,

I went to the Miditerraneo Marine Park in Malta. I suspect it was the same as the other theme parks in Florida: just photo opportunities?

Of course, the time I spent with them was nice. But, being so marshalled and choreagraphed, I lost the "moment" I was expecting.

Of course, they are cute (I grabbed a quick kiss!) and powerful (he/she walloped me in the 'nads when we took-off!) but I didn't have the experience I had hoped for.

Maybe my kiss was inappropriate! :)

Rick,

Thanks for your post and info, I'm sorry about the delayed response!! Surprised to hear Malta is an option though, but it's a shame your experience wasn't all you hoped for.
I'm sure they loved your kiss though!!!

Sparkle :)

The Bay of islands in New Zealand is a great place to swim with Dolphins.
You can go out on a boat with a small group of people and swim with the Dolphins in the open sea. You can't get as close to them as you would in a theme park but I think the experience of seeing them in their own evnviroment is much more rewarding!
