We've finally booked it! by infinity on 23 April 2004 11:29am
I've not posted on this forum for ages but its good to be back.

Well me and my better half have finally booked a trip of a lifetime for almost 6 months frrom Feb next year.

We start in Rio for the Carnival, then head straight to the Iguassu Falls. Then down into Argentina to the Valdez Peninsula and all the way down to Mount Fitzroy and the Moreno Glacier.

Then into Chile to the Torres de Paine National Park. Then we head back up the spine of Chile through the Andes past Santiago up to Bolivia. We go onto Lake Titicaca.

We now get to Peru where (if we have the energy left) we do the Inca Trail over 4 days up to Machu Picchu. We then round off South America in Equador and Quito!

We then leave South America and fly to San Francisco. We spend some time there then start another trip through all the National Parks of the US West, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce etc.. Las Vegas, LA and up the coast back to San Fran.

The hope is then to make it up to Seattle on the train or hire car. Then pop into Canada and Vancouver Island. And if we are really lucky we can book passage on a cheap boat up to Alaska and fly back.

We fly out of Seattle on July 13th back home to the UK!

What do you all think. Any tips and hints from anybody are greatly appreciated. And yes I am learning Spanish, just had my first lesson!

Good luck.
Whilst in Northern California dont miss Lassen Volcanic National Park. Its beautiful and probably a lot less well known than the others you mentioned. But the views are fantastic with ash filled valleys, alpine slopes and all year snow. Its well worth it. In Seattle if going to VI catch the Victoria Clipper rather than overland it. Its pretty cheap and a cool way into Canada - you'll get a fantastic view of Seattle with its volcanic peak as backdrop - a great photo op which I missed. Then see various peaks and coastal views on the way into Victoria. And whilst there pop to Swartz Bay and catch a round trip ferry through the Gulf Islands spend a day or two checking out these lovely islands esp Mayne Island and Galiano. One tip dont travel Greyhound in US if you can help it. Anyway, that should keep you busy.

I agree- Don't take Greyhound. Country is much too big and it's just not a good idea for this country
