  The Chatter Box : Blathering On
If only I could by Angel on 8 December 2002 8:30pm
Years ago I was diagnosed with Crohns, a digestive disorder. I always wanted to be an intrepid traveller, coming from a suburb in Scotland. One day Stumbling by grandads Video set Pole to Pole I found something quite wonderfull! I have been all over the world now!! At 24 I am now in excellent health due to a non commital attitude to the disese and a healthy sense of humour and, although a trip to some of the more violent food countries is off the agenda I will one day take myself to somewhere as far flung as Tibet or Gort in Ireland (?),- whatever my peasley budget will allow after working overtime and eating beans (fortunately stomach is allowing beans) I thank Michael Palin for being my guide and companion on these T.V trips and am gratefull for his strong stomach.I will be off one day to batter my suitcase and be bitten by mosquitoes, I will climb hills and dunes which make my lungs ache and my sweat pour. And I can't wait!! Jo Chapman

"Good on you!" Jo :-}

I really respect your courage and positive attitude. I agree, there is no rehearsal for life, you just get one crack at it.

It's wonderful you're in such good health, well done, all the positive work you've put in is obviously paying off. :-}}}}

I do understand the mind-over-body as I've got a heart condition which isn't life threatening but is more of a ****** nusiuence. I've got too much pace-maker nerve tissue in my heart which means that I can go into palpitations very easily and cannot always slow my heart down again. Any major aerobic exercise is a problem and I cannot raise my arms above my head or bend double for any length of time...........but in spite of this I go to the gym and do weights,rowing machine, bike, determined that it will not leave me totally inactive( I know my limits and work with them, like you :-}}}} )

All the very best of luck, have a great time :-}}}}}}}}}

I find it is so true--- a sense of humor lessens all kinds of pain, and cures all kinds of ailments. It is vital for life-- like oxygen!
Is this why Michael still looks so good after all these years?
Have fun travelling, send us postcards! :)
If only you could? Sounds like you will! Onward!

I always think that the real heroes in the world are the people who can overcome all sorts of hurdles such as illnesses and disabilities and still lead a happy fulfilled life.
I need to see more of these stories so I can appreciate my own health - which so many healhty people never do.
Good luck Angel in your travels - glad that Michaels videos brought you so much joy...

What a wonderful attitude you have. You are a woman to be admired. We all can learn from the way you have handled things. I have always believed a sense of humour is the key to being positive about life and getting through the bad times. Laughter is truly the best medicine.
