Nutmeg, or how we lost Manhatten by Elbean on 16 December 2002 3:04am

Hi,

The 21st of November was a special day in the Netherlands. We were all enjoying Michaels lecture of his last journey to the Sahara.

Not that we love Pommies, they exchanged our New York (Manhatten) for a little island called Run.
And that all for nutmeg...
But I do love Michael!

But my question is: Could this lead to a new trip???
Giles Milton wrote a great book about it: Nathaniel's nutmeg...

It is way out of Notlob, but you never know...

Hi Elbean,

Nice to meet you, welcome to Palin Land....

"Yeah, those wicked, wicked Brits!!! (from a Brit expat in NZ!! :-} )

Agreed. All that just for a bit of seasoning! :-}

Can you tell us a little more about the lecture, it sounds interesting.

Thanks,

Ellen x

Hi Ellen,

Thankx for welcoming me.
I first have to make an apologize, I am a Pythonist... So my view is coloured.

Michael is, apart from travelling around the world to make great series, now also travelling the world to do some advertisements of his last trip...

His lecture is taking about one and a half hour, and is most entertaining.
Besides some beautifull slides of the fast desert, are his sometimes very humoristic remarks very well to consume.

And Michael does not deny his Monty Pythons roots. He had no choice, by the way, cause one of the places he visited in the Sahara was used for shooting the movie Life of Brian...

At the end of his lecture he was given time for signing his last book.
Not for me, I had to drive home again 150 km...
But in my memory is engraved his charming character,

Bernard

Hi Bernard,

Thanks for sharing more on the lecture, it sounded really entertaining.

Shame you couldn't stay for the booksigning..:-{ :-}

When Michael comes here (Christchurch, NZ) in the New Year, I'm hoping he presents a Lecture/talk, literary luncheon, something similar to the one you attended. That would be a real treat. :-}

Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday :-}
