Malaria problem by The_Nomad on 14 September 2004 2:33am
I am travelling to Sabah, Malaysia within the next few months and I am worried what to do about malaria prevention. I have been informed by chemists, WHO & Tropical School of Medicine that Sabah requires a special prescription antimalarial drug that is quite expensive. However, I don't trust my doctors! One told me that I do not need any, the other doesn't have a clue and is giving me normal antimalarial drugs that can be bought anywhere.

Please can someone help me on this one, any information would be brill. Also, I have heard that a natural drug called Artemisinin is very effective, is this worth looking into?

Thanks, David

I agree with John. Masta is recommended by many GP's and provides you with in depth information about travellers health. I recall that you have to pay a nominal amount for the advice sheet but it's well worth the money.

Also agree with John about avoiding being bitten only adding that wearing long trousers and long sleeved shirts in the evening also helps.

Safari njema.

Went to the Tropical School of Medicine (Liverpool) and they've sorted it! Finally! Thanks for the replies
