Hi Mystic. Looks like a great Blog. So much content there. So it will take some time to look through it and give any impressions back. But i did read your article about Koda in Iraq.

I've heard that indeed he has warned by people on the Lonely Planet forum not to attempt going in at such a sensitive time. One man says that he even answered a private message from Koda enquiring about going there,a few days before he dissapeared. The man told him to seriously think twice.

Plus he says that Koda did indeed sound naieve. Having travelled a lot with young Japanese backpackers, i know that their desire to break free and do something daring for a change, overtakes common sense at times.

I love travelling with them. But they're nearly always naieve and seem to attract devious attention because of this. One year there was a trend amongst young Japanese backpackers to buy horses in markets like Kashgar or Chitral and go galloping off across the steppes like Genghis Khan.

Naturally, they always end up paying 100 times more for the horse than they should do. One Japanese friend did this, and i met him months later in Laos with his leg in plaster. "Uhh...fell off horse....uh...horse ran away". Have to laugh. But their adventurous spirit combined with naievity often gets them into trouble. It cost Koda his life.

P.S : I got myself my own blog on that blogger thing too,and also use that colour scheme. It's the nicest scheme of the lot isn't it. Synchronisity. Doubt i'll be making it into a travel blog though. Just a personal one.

Congrats on your site.

Thank you, Godfather, for the comments.

The Koda case was tragic and so avoidable. I suppose we all take some risk in the search for new experiences and adventures, but Koda was just VERY, VERY foolish. I am sure the Iraqi 'tourist industry' took a hit after that tragedy!!! Still, I do hope to one day visit Iraq.

Good luck with your blog. It's an addictive pasttime. Just hope it doesn't read too egotistically....That is always a danger.

All the best,

Mystic Traveller
