How to Irritate People

Okay, so I've been watching some weird things recently. Well, not weird--- different. "Pirates of Penzance" with Kevin Kline and Rex Smith, who, I am sorry to report, I now kind of have a crush on. Oh, lots of X-Files. And there was something else, what was it... oh yes. "How To Irritate People" It's official, my brother is pretty cool. Thought not as much of a Python afficionado (sp?) as I, he does appreciate them, so he bought "How To" and I watched it last night. OMGosh, FUNNY! Favourite sketch was the one with Cleese as an American talk show host, going on about how wonderfully wonderful and humanly human his guests were. Always throws me off to hear Brits speak with American accents (does it throw Brits off to hear American's speak with Brit accents, I wonder?) Anyway Palin was soooo funny and cute... I loved the whole thing and I'm indebted to my brother forever (darn it, it probably means he'll expect me to do his laundry or something...) |

I always wonder if it's more difficult for an American to do a good British accent than it is for a British person to do an American accent. A British friend of mine says that Rene Zellwiger (sp?) is the only American who does a passible accent. |

I *love* doing accents! I've only met one British person (Ever! Can you believe that? Well, I live in a small town)and neglected to ask her how I sounded, so I've no idea how realistic it is. But I know I do a better Irish accent, anyway, than, say, Tom Cruise. And....and Gabriel Byrne really is terrible at Southern accents. Does this all point to some great truth? Probably not. |

Ah yes, the great Johnny Depp... does anybody *not* like him?
But you all hate Orlando Bloom, right? RIGHT? As respected members of the Palin community, you MUST dislike Orlando Bloom on the counts that he is a non-talented Barbie doll.
And nobody (am I right?) has ANY idea who Rex Smith is? |

Rex Smith was the Orlando Bloom of the 70s and early eighties. he had a hit with "You take my breath away" or some such inane sh*t.
He couldn't sing. he couldn't act. But he was pretty. he shoulda gone into punk rock. ;)
he is easy on the eyes, though. A good crush to have.
But Mark Hamill as Skywalker? Aw jeez, cut it out. my knickers are in a twist. |

(standing in shock, open-mouthed)
Y-yes, H-Helen, I believe you did.
I dunno, I kinda like Rex Smith's singing.... in "Pirates of Penzance" anyway. I have this unfortunate tendency to like people who were enormously famous several years before I was born, and I never get in on the ground floor as far as contemporary popular people go. Four years ago I was wishing Leo DiCaprio would have drowned himself off the Titanic at the *beginning* of the movie. |
