Webmaster can you clarify book signing etiquette on photos please?? by Diamond on 2 October 2004 1:24pm

On Thursday at the Logan Hall talk and book signing there was a request on stage that there should be no flash photography during the talk - that i fully endorse as it must be very disturbing for michael and also I assume to protect the copyright of the slides on the screen ???

There was no request to stop digital cameras - they are the ones that dont use flash though - so are digital cameras not allowed as well as the flash photography please

I thought that maybe as per other signings that michael would not mind having a photo taken after the talk whilst signing but this was again not allowed

does this edict/request apply to all book signing and also talks from now on? and what is the reason behind the change in thought? i am just curious and think it perhaps prudent to have an official feedback so that you can put it on the front page of the site or on the list of events so that we understand the etiquette at signings from now on - dont want to offend michael but its best to know these things in advance if possible

also do you know if books other than himalays will be signed and is there a limit to the amount one person can get signed?? at sahara hardback signings they did put a limit of two per person later on? does this still apply??

Lyn,

It's probably because of me grabbing his hand last year and not letting go until the Waterstones guy had figured out how to operate my camera!

It was the longest 30 secs of my life; and I don't think it was the best 30 secs of Michael's either!

"Hmm, my portfolio with Rick!"

I deserved worse! Thank god he's...such a gentleman. (I nearly used the n*ce word!)

Seriously, it's probably that because he's so popular people like me slow things up. And if he has to be somewhere else after the signings, he's torn between wanting to please us guys and keeping the next lot waiting.

Personally, if people bring in non-Himalaya stuff to be signed I think it's a little cheeky! Not sure about Himalaya books. I had six Sahara's last year - all with personalised signatures! Maybe I just answered my own question!! :)

Rick
