Another great programme last night, especially the (oh too brief) glimpse of Kathmandu.

My husband and I stood where Michael stood, opposite the funeral pyres, while our guide explained all about the sons shaving their heads, fasting, etc etc. In fact we probably leaned on the wall there! Oooh! (There were no bodies being burned though, just the preparations andthe remains of old fires).

I'm sure I recognised a couple of the younger Sadus, too, who invited me to sit down with them while the husband climbed up yet more steps (I hate heights!)- mind you, not wishing to be mean, rude or whatever, they do all look similar with their hair and the ash and everything!.

And the views in the mountains were spectacular!

WELL DONE MICHAEL FOR ANOTHER GREAT PROGRAMME!!

Did you go with a tour? If so, can you recommend them?

My husband and I are looking into going to Tibet/Nepal 2005 or 2006. We figure it's as far away from an Atlantic hurricane as we can get! Actually, each of us has wanted to go since childhood.

We've contacted a few tour operators so far...

No. We decided where we wanted to go (we were in India for 3 weeks after Kathmandu, then a week in the Maldives and 2 nights in Dubai), what we wanted to see, how we wanted to travel internally (plane, car and train) and which hotels (Yak & Yeti in Kathmandu)
and the travel company did the rest.

It was Greaves Travel (they specialise in India) - and we flew Emirates from Birmingham - Delhi via Dubai and return. They are just the best!! Also we were upgraded Dubai - Delhi to Business Class which was superb!

Ideal being independant as when it's just you you can decide if you've had enough or not, also once or twice we decided to have an afternoon off if there wasn't much we were going to see anyway. You're in charge! Saw a tour group in Agra being herded, it's not for us!

We are hoping to return to Kathmandu one day.

Hope this helps.

Anne
