Book signing in Oldham by palseekem on 30 October 2004 9:34pm
Did anyone else feel like I did at Michaels book signing in Oldham. Hurded like cattle or sheep after a two and a half hour wait,by some jumped up little S*** of a security person, with mutters of move along! move along!and once they eventually got to see Michael,I was told by a woman standing to his right, that michael won`t sign anything but his book.
I waited years to meet this great guy and all for about 30 secs of conversation, if that. Is it really neccessary for all that red tape?

Still a great guy! But wish he could have had more time.

its difficult meeting the ideas of the people who want to sell with those who wish to greet - from our point of view i know how you feel - but i always stay to take photos after the event - and soaking up the atmosphere - listening to others meeting michael too helps make the day that much better - the management and those others involved in selling himalaya well they only think profit really - understandable but michael always does his best and with so many wanting to see him - its best to look on the positive side and realise how lucky you were to get in - at some book signings people were turned away at no 300 and that was that

always look on the bright side of life - its all you can do i'm afraid

if all the people in front of you were to take as long as you wished to have with michael then you may not have seen him at all - if you get my drift

its not easy getting the balance right from both sides

try getting tickets for a talk next time he is on the road - that way although you have to pay to see him - you do get quite a bit of michael for your money!!!

I do see your point palseekem - but like Diamond says, Michael has so many people to see each time there is only a little time for all of us! Like you, we queued for a couple of hours before the queue moved - but the atmosphere in Worcester was great (if you read my earlier entry (Worcester Signing) you'll have seen that the staff were offering chocolates) so I'm sorry you had a bad experience!

I went to see Tony Robinson sign his book yesterday and because there were far fewer people, he was able to be more laid back, and chatted away! I truly believe that if only, say, 50 people turned up, MP would be the same! I'm sure he wishes he could speak to us all individually for 5 mins or whatever, but he's so popular etc etc that he can't!

Just enjoy the fact that you saw him.

I agree, the atmosphere at Worcester was great. I stayed around after Michael had signed my book, watching from the side where he was sitting behind the table. I'm sure the staff noticed people were staying on to watch Michael in action so to speak, but they didn't seem to mind. My 30 seconds with Michael flew by, but taking photos and chatting with others made it the ultimate M.P. experience!

OK Guys,
I reckon you are all right! I suppose I`ll just have to wait until I bump into him again in the Peak District on one of his local travels! Oh, Yeah! forgot to mention this last time, I met Michael whilst out on a hike one weekday a few years ago, we chatted about various topics for all of 5 minutes,so I suppose I can be thankful for that. As that old saying goes "Always look on the bright side of life!!" Thanks for your jottings folks!

Hey, guys.

C'mon. You're starting to freak me out.

I like Michael Palin too. But this is going way too far.

If you want to find salvation, then it lies within - Michael Palin can't fill up your soul; you're just going to have to do that on your own.

Peace. Love. And understanding.

And for god's sake, Welease Woger!
