Michael in New Zealand? by CraigStanton on 9 November 2004 1:57pm

I just got the bulk email from Michael saying that he is going on a tour including NZ to promote the Himalaya book. I missed him by one day on the Sahara tour so I am really keen to get plenty of advanced warning of when he is coming this time. It's very late here now and I can't think straight so please forgive me if the travel/book store information is really obvious, but I can't see it. So if anyone here knows when he'll be traveling to the land of the long white cloud please let me know. I want to shake that man's hand, he's cool.

thanks

I think you might have to do you own internet searching craig as we seem to get only uk info on the site for some odd reason!!

I do hope that you find out where michael is - i am sure there are threads about his visit down under - perhaps on the travel section??

Hi Craig,

I hope you got to see him. He was here in Auckland yesterday and today. I went along to see him today. Had lunch & he signed my books. Michael was excellent.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

NOOOOOO!!

*sobs*

I rang around and only Dymocks said they knew what was happening and said it was just a ticket-only thing at the Carlton Hotel. I totally would have paid to go in and listen, if his stories/annecdotes are half as good in person as they are on TV, well, they'd be very interesting.

It's the second time I have missed him by a day, and that makes me sad. I'm buying a signed copy of course, but to have met Michael and to have shook his hand would be a good moment for me.

*sniff*

I'm going home to sulk

Sorry to hear that. I was dissapointed previous years also.

I made a thread here about a month ago about his NZ visits - unfortunately you must of missed it.

They are poorly advertised, but yet they seem to be fully sold out everytime without fail. Tickets were on Ticketek.

It was a Dymocks/Herald event at the Carlton. They put on a nice lunch with Michael, after which he talked about Himalaya, answered a few questions and then signed books.

I know you'd have got a signed copy at the event, but do you happen to know if he signed a bunch of books to go to Dymocks book stores? I'll get a friend to go over there at lunch anyway.

You know what really, really annoys me? I think I read that he was as Rosmini Boys school on Wednesday night. I walked right past there, I work right next to their sports field, and I was totally unaware.

I know it's going to be ages before he does another travel event thing, but I should write to his publicist and ask them to be a bit more obvious. An email from this site stating tour dates and places would be pretty easy to send out and incredibly useful.

I've just got back Michael's event in Wellington. I have to say that I saw no publicity for this event at all, and I only started fishing for information when the Ticketek newsletter made the announcement of the Auckland dates - it pays to be on the mailing list to get advance notice.

Anyway, Michael was his usual affable, entertaining and obliging self, and we managed to surprise him by asking him to sign our DVD copy of American Friends - he didn't know it had been released!
