Tourist Visa Information. by jamfitz on 15 November 2004 1:54am
Hopefully I'll be travelling to Asia for the first time after Christmas, but I'm a little worried about paperwork and Visa's that I may need to travel to that side of the world. It's a place I haven't been too, but I here it's beautiful and the people are great. Any Information all???? Thanks.

Asia is too massive to give you general advice. Suggest you check the websites of the Embassies of the countries you are planning on visiting and they will give country specific visa information. To find them just go to a search engine and enter for example, Thailand Embassy London and see what they come up with. Most good travel agents (e.g. Trailfinders) can also advise and assist.
Best wishes

As Wild said. Plus, it all depends on several factors. How long you wish to visit for. If you want single/double/or multiple entry. Your nationality etc. Some visas will begin their alloted duration upon "date of issue" (the day it was put in your passport) and some begin upon "date of entry" (border or airport). So all these things need to be taken into account too. I agree that Trailfinders can give you info. But beware of those people. Several times they've given me visa info on oath that i later found out by myself was utter *****.

One year they swore blind that Indian embassys were no longer issuing 6 month visas. I was very skeptical indeed as i'd got 6 month multiple entry visas for India everytime i'd applied before in person. They swore blind the only visa anybody can get now is 3 months. I phoned up the Indian embassy straight afterwards and they said "No problem Baba. Six months multiple entry". So i got what i wanted. In short, double check "everything" Trailfinders tell you.

That includes info they give you on flights, onward ticket requirements, visa, etc. They are very frequently misleading,in order to make money with either their visa service. Sometimes a country will allow you to come in on a 30-60 day pass for free, instead of the visa option. Trailfinders will swear blind with scary threats that you wont make it past heathrow airport without a visa. It's this kind of thing i'm talking about. Just because they deal with travellers, does'nt mean they're not as sly as any travel agency you find around the world. Your best bet as Wild said,is to check the websites of each embassy in UK (if they exist) to check what they say about Visas. Likewise, check direct with an airline about onward ticket requirements and such things too. Because travel agencies also often lie about things like that too.
