Too Poor to Travel

I am way too poor to travel. I'm a college student who is majoring in elementary education. Therefore, I'll be poor for a while. However, if money were not an issue I would travel to the following places:
Egypt
Italy (Rome, Venice, Florence, the ruins of Pompeii)
Greece (Athens, especially)
England (London and Liverpool)
Ireland
Scotland
France (Paris, especially)
If you had the time and the money to take your dream vacation, where would you go?

I would travel to:
Egypt (pyramids, pharaos, tombs,...)
Australia (there I'd love to go diving at the riffs...)
New York (a dream in itself...)
Ireland (the green, greener, greenest hills on earth...)
And I know some day the wish to visit those extraordinary places will come true. |

I would travel to:
China
Japan (Tokyo and Kyoto especially)
Italy (Rome, Florence and Venice)
Greece
I would have liked to travel to Egypt, but as an Englishwoman I'll be giving it a wide berth for a good while, I think. |

I was too poor to travel this year. Well, almost. I went for alternatives & instead of forking out nearly a grand to see Africa, I decided to go for somewhere more closer to home-
WALES!!!
For us Brits it's just a few hours away and it has the most amazing scenery. Okay, the weather isn't always that good, but you can't have everything. Your own bit of the world can sometimes pleasantly surprise you - you just need to discover it. Billy Connolly has proven it! (Sorry Michael) |

I want to go everywhere. I think it's genetic... I have an uncle who is a true jetsetter. He has been to every country on Earth at least once. I guess, if I had to choose just a few places, I'd go to:
the rest of the US (I live on the east coast and haven't been west of Ohio)
England
New Zealand
Lebanon (that's not going to happen for a long time)
Mexico |

Not wanting to give the impression of showing off but rather as a non-condescending word of encouragement. My dream destinations are many but include:
A coast to coast trip across the USA.
Churchill, N Canada to see the Northern Lights.
New Zealand and Australia.
SE Asia, HK, China and Japan.
Europe, Russia, Scandinavia, North Africa.
All being well this dream will become a reality during 2003 after many many months of saving and planning. It will certainly be a dream come true and its been a long time coming. If reasons for not being able to do it are purely financial then I am sure that one day you can make it so. In the meantime I might post my progress here on the site if there is enough interest, so you could at least follow me on my way around. |

I, like many of you, I'm poor but with dreams of traveling. I just love the prospect of it, the planning, the getting there. I don't like coming home but that can't be helped. If I had the money right now, the one place I'd go would be Scotland.
The place has me hooked. I don't know what it is but it feels like a call that I can't resist.
After that I guess I'd visit the rest of Europe but specially England then Australia and New Zealand. |

I have been to Egypt and many other places, Egypt is very beautiful we went to see the Tombs of the Kings and Queens, Tutankarmon's tomb (I don't know how to spell it sorry) If you ever raise the money to go I would advise you to go to Egypt and stay in Luxor in a hotel called Movenpick (it is based on the Nile) it is very cheap and the surroundings are wonderful. |

BBC TV last night presented the TOP 50 PLACES TO SEE BEFORE YOU DIE. Number One was the Grand Canyon. And you don't have to spend a fortune to do that one. The other high votes were all a bit more remote (Barrier Reef, New Zealand S.I;, etc) but not a bad list. Incidentally I'd seen 6 of the top ten and 27 of the top 50. |
