Contacts for Gap year by Dunn.jh on 11 December 2004 2:50pm
Hello I am 17 and will be going on my gap year in 2006 and in need of some contacts to stay with who has local knowledge as I intend to write a small travel journal and would like as much information to the countries I am to be visting. I will be visiting: Eygpt, Kenya, South Africa, India (Northen with monks), Thailand, Hong Kong, Vietnam, New Zeland, Australlia, Los Angeles. But am also open to other counties.
Thank you

You are going to have so much fun! It's a cliche but very true! I followed roughly the same route as you and it was amazing.
Sataki - remember that word! It basically means 'I don't want it' in swahili! It will be very useful!
When in Hue in Vietnam, go to the Cafe on Thu wheels and go on their motorbike tour - well worth the sales pitch (better than the boat trips on the Perfume River). Their pancakes are rubbish though! Go to the beach in Hoian - it's gorgeous and deserted (save the girls selling bracelets). Don't pay more than 50p for a pedicure -I was ripped off a 75p! (I don't expect you will have that problem!)
I could go on and on and on! You are going to love it and will probably feel the the bug very badly when you get home!
Good luck!!
