Ripping Yarns and Long Way Round by julwis on 2 January 2005 9:23pm

Got hold of the Ripping Yarns DVD that was released in November and its a great addition to anyones Palin collection. Not only does it have the remastered Yarns, with commentaries, but it also has a documentary about Michaels early years, and an episode of a comedy show he wrote long ago!
Also got the DVD of Long Way Round. I can highly recommend it! If any series has metaphorically passed on the travel show baton then this show can safely reassure anyone out there that travel shows on par with 80 days are not only possible but most definitely out there.
While this show doesnt offer the great insights into the cultures of the countries that Charley and Ewan travel through in the same way that Sahara or Himalaya did, this series is very addictive. Its video diary format really does drive home how much effort goes into making a travel program. The added bonus is that the DVD is region 0 so anyone can get it now.

Im definitely keen to try out the BMWs too, even more so because the training centre in the first episode at Abercrave run off road weekends for about £350, which includes the bikes! Bet KTM cringe when they watch this show now, even though the BMWs were the bikes to take.

We got Ripping Yarns for X-mas, so I will hopefully watch that in the next few weeks (Once I have finished all this work I should have done for weeks ago...) Can't wait to watch it, I read the back and it looks really funny! :D
