The Chatter Box : Blathering On
Phantom by notquitenglish on 7 January 2005 12:42am
Anybody seen Phantom of the Opera yet? I just saw it last night and I *loved* it so much I want to see it again. The last movie I wanted to watch on theatres again directy after I saw it was "Return of the King." Hollywood, take note. By and large, you make crappy movies.

I love Gerard Butler.... on about the same level as I love David Wenham, if that tells you anything... :)

I saw it, but will probably need to see it again to appriciate it all. Im not really an opera/ musical person, but it was v strange with all the angel of music and the phantom speaking to her as such, then reveling himself etc. I know its the point of the story, but it seems very odd.
I liked it though- very dramatic! the end was so sweet.....

I'll probably go see it again with my sister... her husband said it would be fine if it weren't for all the singing... *disgusted* Men!

I've seen this movie twice in the cinemas, and am considering going back a third time! I've always been a fan of the musical and was not disappointed in the film adaptation. I think a lot of critics have been very unfair in their reviews. It's quite silly for a person to rate the film poorly just because they don't care for the score. After all, it's called Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera, and was adapted for the screen BY Webber, WITH his original score. If you don't like musicals, or didn't enjoy the stage show, chances are you won't enjoy the film either. However, I strongly advise people to give the movie a go. You might be pleasantly surprised.

I myself have not seen the original, but hope to as I hear that nothing beats the original production with Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford. I hear Michael Crawford's performance is more eerie compared to the new adaptation where I felt the presence of Gerard was very human and raw in expression.
The film was very good. I was quite impressed. I got goosebumps. One of the only few movies I'd like to watch again and again.

Haven't seen it but highly recommend the original soundtrack with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman. (Very nice score if you can play the piano)
