No no, it's from an article called Pasquil's Palin from the year 1619! Apologies if it's unclear!

So, in the English being spoken in 1619, what does "palin" mean?

Hmm. I did 5 minutes of web research and found out that "Palin" is/was (?) Greek for "again" or "go back" or "backwards" and that's where "palindrome" comes from. It's also the root of "palimpsest", a word which I have never in my entire life used before this sentence, here. It turns out "palinode" (go back + song), is "poetic retraction". The source dates the word from 1599 via French and Latin. Maybe the "palin" here's a short form of that.
I don't know the origin of the surname, though, which bugs me because I was looking dictionary of last names a while back and I found it. For some reason I think it was some kind of Irish geographic feature.
