  The Chatter Box : Travel
retirement home for boots by davekaz on 27 April 2005 1:38pm
A few years ago, I was sat sprawled on the sofa flicking through the channels and up popped Julius Ceasar in, at the time, 20th century costume. His witty comments, his enthusiasm for the bizarre, led me to believe that I was one lazy, uninteresting person, an armchair traveller no more I said. I bought a pair of good hiking boots (I am known to drag myself up a mountain or two), and soon my boots were flying over North Africa where they met desert for the first time, my boots were normally used to squelchy Irish bog, or walking in the Scottish Highlands and yes they did get to the top of Ben Nevis, and have been to other sunnier climes such as Spain, not to mention resting in stirrups as my horse speeds across fields! But alas, they are becoming threadbare, the soles are worn after our many adventures, the gloves that cushioned my feet are falling apart at the seams, but even so, they will come to Switzerland with me to play on the trains, and a possible climbing of an Alp or two. My travelling dreams are coming true with the help of my boots, but most of all my favourite traveller on the screens - Mr Michael Palin - thanks mate!
