Washington DC is the place to go by lotrchild on 26 February 2003 1:34am

I have lived in DC one year now and I still have not seen everything there is to see here. It is a 'must' place to visit! I believe there is something for everyone here. There are monuments for the history buffs, museums and galleries for the art lovers, TONS of theatres (classic to modern-progressive), Georgetown for the shoppers and some of the best restaurants in the US. We also have Cherry Blossom season, which is beyond beautiful (the streets are lined with trees of white and pink buds). I have been many places in the US, but I consider this to be the most interesting and awe-inspiring..........but that is just my opinion, I would like to know what others think.

Hi Kyra, this is Patty, your neighbor from Ellicott City, Maryland. You live closer to me than any other Palinite on this web site!
Hands down, DC is an unbelievable place. I've been going there my enitre life and haven't discovered everything yet. I'm 56, so you can see how much DC has to offer. The Smithsonian alone, for example, or an art gallery, has so much going on all the time, that you have to constantly be visiting to stay current. And there's so mucn more than that. The buildings are gorgeous, the scnerey a the Basin... Just sitting upon a bench is a fine way to spend the day.

I've heard of the Shakespeare Theater, infact, have some sonnets and a few other little tiny books from there.

Agree, DC is unbelievable. I don't know how to explain it, but it's so.........immense.

Also, I love the fact that there is always something going on.........I love the Eastern Market that happens every weekend. You get people of all nationalities with booths selling things from all over the world.........also, lots of original artwork, jewelry, candles..........all sorts of stuff. It is so much fun.........DC is the best:) Kyra

I totally agree that Wash DC is a great place to see. I lived there five years and never ran out of things to do. The Smithsonian can keep you occupied for days on end, and always have great new exhibits to see. The Washington Zoo is also very cool. And best part is that most of the museums, etc.. don't cost much at all, if anything to visit. I have fond memories also of hanging out in Georgetown afterhours...being on the lawn watching the fireworks go off over the Washington Monument on the 4th of July....standing on tiptoes so I could see the inaugural parade for the 1st Bush..lol....lots of fun stuff.

DC is definitely a must see destination in the US. ;)

A friend of mine is going there soon and she wants to find a hostel to stay at. She's looking for one thats relatively cheap (about $25 an ight) and as she's a girl travelling alone, somewhere thats fairly safe.
Does anyone know of anywhere suitable. Cheers
Paul

There is an HI hostel on 1009 11th Street which is probably one of the cheaper places you will find. But although I wouldn't feel unsafe there, a woman traveling alone probably would - it is on the periphery of an area that can be a little sketchy at night. Good location otherwise, though.

And I also agree that DC is a great place to see - lots of amazing stuff that is actually FREE!
