Hey again!

I asked the other day but I think my subject heading was a bit too cryptic! Is anyone else out there a Nigel Meakin fan? I love his camerawork, and of Michael's travel companions, it's his antics that make me laugh the most!

He's been on board since "Around the World in 80 Days" and I'd love to find other people who are interested in his work!

i agree nigel is a legend. someone a few posts back suggested roger mills for prime minister on the grounds that we need some reasoned direction. very true (i only just got the very clever play on words) but i think we could solve all our problems by making nigel king of the world. Obviously some peops on this site might advocate michael for this position but I feel his role is more as a figurehead. I think I'm right in saying that a demi- god is next up from a king so michael could be a demi-god and we could all look to him for guidance strictly in a way that didn't constitute idolotry or that was sycophantic or just generally silly. Anyway then Nigel could be king of the world. I am usually very moderate politically speaking but the idiocy of democratically elected leaders of different countries i think has clearly demonstrated the need for one global ruler. I am aware that the pressures of being absolute ruler of the whole world as well as trying to be fair and nice would be hard but i feel that nigel's up to the job. he's good under pressure. i can tell that from watching the programmes, i am very perceptive. It's not that i have anything against roger mills cos he seems like a nice guy, especially in the diary bit of the sahara dvd. in fact maybe we should have some kind of vote. i'll leave u all to ponder that.

I don't know about being king of the world - he's just a damn good cameraman and seems like a funny bloke! I was quite amused to read in Basil Pao's companion book to Sahara "Inside Sahara" (excellent book - fantastic photographs and captions) that Basil had nicknamed him "Quasi" due to his habit of abusing inanimate objects!

I always get a laugh out of his antics on the trips.

Yes he deffaintly is a legend. Some of the shots make me wonder how exactly he took some of em.

Nigel Meakin - King of the World.

Michael - Demi-God.

Roger as Prime Minister

and Basil as the Holy Ghost????

As, agreed MattD, only a ghost could get some of those shots' angles!!??? :^}

I think Nigel would be mortified to be King of the World - he seems more comfortable behind the spotlight - not in front of it!

So long as he keeps that camera rolling - and springing it on an unsuspecting Michael (I love those moments!) I'll be happy!

Indeed...I love shots like the white-water rafting in P2P...with the camera strapped on his shoulder. It's great to get that feeling that you're *right* there...

Oh yeah - the same for down the Urumbamba (sp?) river in Full Circle.

I really enjoy the candid bits too. Pretending to film the sunset on the dhow but really filming Michael dropping his daks to use the barrell loo. Or being lassoed by Michael in America. Or getting stuck behind a turnstile in Japan. What a crack up!

I know! Even though it was in silouhette, you could tell Michael was embarrassed!

I've just been re-watching 80 Days this morning, and was cracking up at Mike and Nigel's "recording sound is easy, if you're technically competent" gag on the Susak container ship between Madras and Singapore!

I'm glad someone started this thread.

Nigel does a remarkable job in the extraordinary situations that he's asked to do it. In the format he's required to work, no doubt his creative talents are restricted; but not missed, Nigel!

And let's be right fellas: he always, but always, picks out the good-looking gals in any scene! :)
