Anyone know where Wild in Africa is?

So WIA is MIA!

Maybe he's on an extended work trip to Africa...?

Yeah probably. I was away for a couple of weeks and noticed when I came back that he hadn't posted for a while.

Thanks for your concern
I just got in from nearly 4 weeks in East Africa, travelling and working in Kenya and southern Sudan. E-mail was either non-existent or so expensive on a satellite uplink that I had to prioritise work and had no time for surfing.

Brought my family across to see the relatives and also took them for a nice beach holiday on the Kenya coast. Then I was off into the bush in south Sudan for a week or so.

So I'm all right thanks and looking forward to catching up on Palinite news.

In the bush in South Sudan? That sounds dangerous. Yes, I've also read Winston Churchills River War and seen the movie Khartoum. Of course John Garang was just killed. A sad place...

Not really that dangerous Mike. Much more dangerous in Nairobi (or Nairobbery as it is known locally) and I was robbed there a year ago by armed gangsters. I've been in war zones over the years in Ethiopia, south Sudan and in Darfur and have rarely felt as threatened as I have in the big cities of the world.

Despite Garang's death there is still great hope for peace now in southern Sudan and it is really fascinating to watch and participate in what is essentially the rebuilding of a new country with all the challenges and opportunities that brings.

That's interesting. I have become fascinated with the Sudan, because Tucson has had many South Sudanese and Somali refugees settled here.

I never saw a violent incident in South Africa, but heard about it all the time. They were terrified of the neighboring states as well as crime in the big cities. Also, many illegal immigrants from the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa show up in South Africa to work.
