News on proposed Python musical! by Miss-M on 28 February 2003 7:09am

I found a very interesting article in the Arts and Entertainment section of today's Herald-Sun newspaper. It's quite brief, so I'll transcribe it for you all to read:

"Holy Grail a musical Monty"
By Simon Plant

Monty Python and the Holy Grail the musical?

Don't laugh. Comedian musician Neil Innes has confirmed that members of the Python team are "thinking about doing a kind of musical of Holy Grail."

"It always was a good yarn, King Arthur and all that stuff," Innes says from Britain this week. "Obviously the Pythons gave it the treatment in the (1975) movie, but I don't see why the musical couldn't work. You could push it back towards the Camelot nonsense..."

Innes, often dubbed "the seventh Python", is to meet Eric Idle in Los Angeles this month on the way to the 2003 Melbourne International Comedy Festival in April.

"I want to have a word in Eric's shell-like ear about it," he said. "I dunno what they've got in mind, but I think it could be a lot of fun."

Innes Own Words, at fortyfivedownstairs, 45 Flinders Lane, from March 28.

So there you have it, folks! It actually looks like a Python musical could be in the works after all! Although it didn't specify if it was going to be a movie or a stage musical. Hmmmm... interesting, hey?!

Cheers,
Michelle :)

I'm curious about that myself, Karen! Also, I wonder who'd play the role of King Arthur in the musical?

I assume that apart from Neil Innes it would be Eric Idle doing the bulk of new songs/lyric writing
after all he did do the Eric Idle exploits Monty Python musical shows
recently.

Are you sure??? I reallu don't know what to say, other than I know if it does happen, I won't be able to see it, lol. I love Niel Innes' "How Sweet to be an Idiot" song, lol!
