1. Energy
Palin travels the world meeting people who work on various energy projects - a hydroelectric plant in Iceland, a windfarm in Denmark or in Palm Springs, an off-shore oil platform, a nuclear-power plant somewhere, a site that harnesses solar power, one for geothermal energy, a trip inside a coal mine, a biomass facility, a visit inside an oil refinery, a forest where underprivileged folks cut wood to heat their homes, one for fuel cells, etc. He could give some thoughts on global warming too. The main point would be to show that we are all reliant on at least one of these sources.

2. Drive from Cape Town to Singapore. Can't use boats, railroads, or planes.

3. Pick one grid on the globe (15 degrees of longitude x 15 degrees of latitutde). Visit it, make friends, take notes, etc. Go to the grid on the opposite end of the world (as if you're digging straight through the earth), and visit that place. Give presentations to those people there about what life would be like on the opposite end of the world and how those other people would be as neighbors if they decided to dig a hole through and come over as neighbors. Then, after taking some notes from this second group of people, go back to the first place and explain to people there what life is like on the opposite end and what those other people think of them as potential neighbors. Maybe he could bring video-recorded messages from one group to the other group and vice versa. For example, I live in Philadelphia, PA, and Perth, Australia is the closeest place to the direct opposite of the globe from me.

4. Travel the world's canals through their locks, etc. (I know he's done many already).

I like #1 and 3. #2 would cramp his legs way too much, and #4, like you said, he's already done some of (although I read somewhere that he really wants to explore Central and South America, which of course includes Panama.
