Favourite Christmas Film by LynneD on 16 December 2005 1:21pm
Hi everyone,

Haven't been here for a while (pressure of work!). Hope everyone is well and behaving themselves!

So, do you have a favourite Christmas film? Maybe something you watch year after year?

We always watch "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" and "It's A Wonderful Life". Brilliant!

Please share your favourites or just chat about Christmas in general. Won't be long now folks! Have a happy one and the very best of health and happiness in 2006.

Well for the first few Christmases of our married life, Miracle on 39th Street was always on the telly and it became 'our film'.

This was the old version, and to this day we prefer it to the newer one (which has Richard Attenborough as 'Kris Kringle').

I'm not one for old films, but this one is great, as it proves Santa exists, lol!

I guess its the feel good factor that counts in a Christmas film.

My husband also loves 'Its a wonderful life' and it is a good film, but nevertheless 'Miracle' is still our film!!

P.S. NO NO NO we did NOT see it on its first release, naughty naughty!!!

Hey Lynne! So you chose work over us, eh?:-)
Hope things are better.

Favorite Christmast movies? Christmas Carol with Alistair Sim, It's a Wonderful Life, and Miracle on 34th Street. Happy Holiday to all!

It has to be Muppets Christmas Carol or White Christmas!!! Bit of a difference between the two I know but sometimes I like something silly and sometimes I like something soppy!!

However it's not the same unless The Great Escape or Mary Poppins is on!!

Thanks Anne, Mike, Sophie & Clare. Some good ones there! We have "Miracle On 34th Street" with Richard Attenburgh - a little too sickly sweet!

Like minds Mike ... I love "Scrooge" starring Alastair Sim. A classic and won't be beaten. By the way, I would rather be chatting to my friends here than working - believe you me! Can't wait for the break beginning next Friday!

Ha ha "The Great Escape" and "Mary Poppins". I fear you may be right Clare!

Happy watching. :-)

During Christmas time they play a lot of classic fairy tale Czechoslovak films in TV here. My favourite is "Tri orisky pro Popelku", which would be translated as "Three hazelnuts for Cinderella". It's a slightly different story than the Disney one, but it's very charming. It's very Christmasy, maybe because the entire story takes place in winter. In it, Cinderella gets three hazelnuts as a present, and in each hazelnut there's a dress hidden. The first is a hunter's costume - she uses it to beat the Prince in shooting. The second is a pink dress and she wears it when she secretly sneaks to the royal ball. And the last one is (surprise) a wedding dress. The film is around 20 years old, but it's still very popular here. :-)

Ooops bit of a typo on my post! Er...39th Street is a whole new movie...yeah right!! Sorry all! I did mean 34th street!

Tauriel - where can I get some hazlenuts like that? Well, I don't exactly shoot so I wouldn't need a hunter's costume. Oh and I don't go to balls (royal or otherwise). And I'm happily married so I don't need a wedding dress. But perhaps my hazlenuts could contain designer outfits? Oh and shoes, lots of shoes....
