KODO Drummers in London by tming_ong on 9 February 2006 2:41am
Just went to see the Kodo drummers this evening at the Barbican centre here in London... they are absolutely AMAZING!

I would definitely recommend this - their music is so powerful and have some cool complimenting instruments too.

If you're in London and free tomorrow eve, GO!

I saw the Kodo drummers last night (9th Feb) and I thought they were GREAT.
However I didn't like the Monochrome tune and two of the other tune didn't do much for me, but I enjoyed the rest of the tunes. (God, those guys and girls are fit!!)

I only wish they played some tunes from there're "Best Of Kodo II" CD.
EG - Song Of The Universe, Shake, Nanafushi etc.

I know this isnt really anything to do with Kodo, other than involving Taiko drumming, but I was at the Japanday (http://www.japanday.org/)event at the University of Sheffield yesterday and got to hear some taiko drummers there. The event venue was in the Octagon building and although Ive seen Yamato play twice, there was something more impressive about seeing the drummers in a small venue. Maybe it was the sound system or something but I could really feel the intensity of the drumming very strongly. This show, by Joji Hirota, was pretty powerful. The only major difference between this show and Kodo/Yamato was that it was purely drumming and didnt involve any other kinds on instrument, such as flute etc.
