The Chatter Box : Blathering On
Holger Telephoned Me. by tucsonmike on 1 April 2006 2:31am
Boy did I get a shock yesterday morning. The phone rang and I saw the "939" Area Code. (I work in a call center, so I know U.S. Area Codes. I thought the call was from Mexico at first). We had a nice little conversation. A break from writing.

Yeah, was funny: After my opening line a loud bang and than a long pause as you scrambled back on your chair ;-).

As we are in regular email contact for quite a while, it was time to enter the next level of communication, just for testing if I can handle your accent. And as I consulted the World Time Zone Chart before calling, I gave you a good chance to finish your breakfast.

Oh, that's so cool. I'm always glad to see people make closer contact. I've spoken to Phyll, Kaz and Tony and have actually been over to Scotland and met Phyll and her family. We will later meet up again in Florida in a few months. Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I had my breakfast. I had put the oatmeal in the sink. Kicking the chair over did scare the new cat Lucy, (who isn't scared by much).

I understood Holger fine. He'll get used to my crappy accent. Just wait until I practice my German. Which reminds me of a funny story.

26 years ago, when I lived in Taiwan, I had a German girlfriend, Jutta Schmitz. She was from a town between Koln and Bonn called Bruhl. (Sorry Holger, could not put the umlaut over the "u"). One fine Saturday morning at 5 A.M. (Actually it was below zero in Boston that day), I telephoned Jutta. It went something like this:

Jutta: Who is this?
Me: Sweetheart, how many Americans do you know?
Me: The one and only.
Dead silence. You still there? You OK?
Jutta: (Starting to cry) I am just shocked that's all.
Me: Stop crying and talk to me, this call is costing me money!
We spoke for about ten minutes. She stopped writing because I went to Atlanta instead of Germany. Then two months later I met Elaine...

Patty, I can see your excitement. Your spelling and punctuation are all over the place LOL!

HAHAHAHAHA. I am sorry! Geesh, I am known here as the typo wueen. I'll correct my mistakes. (Gee, that's so embarrassing. hehehe)
