Blocking by sighthound on 8 June 2006 1:37am

Since being able to block trolls in the chat room has been very useful lately, today Arty, LouLou and I tried it out on each other to see exactly how it works. One thing that surprised us was to find out that, when you block someone, he can still see what you write even though you won't see what he writes. Another thing we discovered is that there is nothing on his screen to tell him that you've blocked him.

This leads to two things to remember:

1- If you don't want the blockee to see what you're writing, switch to the one-to-one mode.

2- If you want the blockee to know he is being blocked (and you're not just ignoring him), announce that you have blocked the person and he will see it.

Blocking-In American Football, to stop someone in a formalized manner from tackling your player (especially your quarterback, who greatly resents winding up on his backside). I remember a tape of the great coach Vince Lombardi screaming at his players "Nobody blocked!" (You didn't mess with Coach Lombardi, but that is another story).

I remember this in the chat today. Interesting to know.
