Dear Rest of the World,
I didn't vote for him. I tried, I really did.
Thank you, with many apologies,
A Scared American

The stupid son-of-a-bitch - I mean, Bush - made a speech today about vetoing a bill that would have dedicated funds to stem-cell research. He was very triumphant. They set him up in room full of pretty, wealthy, suburban white families with their children and babies providing goo-gooing background sounds while he spoke about saving babies.
I say we go ahead and give all these obscenely ignorant Bush People Idaho and Montana so they can form their own little nation and so we can get rid of them.
No joke, I had an MS relapse last week, had to resign my little part-time job, and I've been fairly bed-ridden. If my nerve cells can be repaired by stem-cells.....
Actually, I don't worry about it so much. The technology will come from Asia or Europe, that's all. |

You didn't vote for him along with the majority of Americans in his first election (and I suspect, also, in his second.) There was such an outcry at the time about how (in this age of instant nationwide communication) we HAVE to get rid of the severely outdated electoral college and change to a direct election for president so the majority's decision will be respected - then, after a week or so, where did all that talk go??!!!
There are all these politicians continually pushing for amendments to the Constitution about things that do not at all belong in it, like flag-burning and gay marriage, but NONE overtly pushing to correct a significant shortcoming in that wonderful document. Could it be because all politicians are arrogant enough to think that they will be able to manipulate the current electoral system to get their presidential candidate elected? After all, you only have to make sure a couple of precincts in Florida and Ohio go you way and you've got the election sewed up. I say it's long overdue for us to get rid of the red state/blue state mentality since the President is supposed to represent us all! |

P.S. Cori, your posts appeared while I was writing mine. So sorry you're feeling so poorly.
Bush's actions today will, eventually, be just another reason that, in the future, his presidency will be looked upon as the worst ever. He fails on so many fronts. |

Thanks everyone!
sighthound, everything you said and then some! Also, there's all the re-districting, I think it's called gerrymandering??, which incumbants arrange for, in order to further ensure their re-election. Texas is lousy with it!
Here's a link to National Popular Vote:

I found out about this when I saw retired Sen. Bayh on CSPAN a few months ago. I wish I could say I'm an intellectual who watches CSPAN and PBS, but the truth is, I was just flippng stations! |
