I Have a Tentative Book Contract.

I will let you read the note for yourselves. What a week. Now all I have to do is go to court Monday and deal with my latest stupidity. (Luckily it is just a traffic ticket, but it was stupid enough so my physician figured out why I have been so crazy and has me on Paxil). More for my How Not to Get Arrested Book.
Enough about that, here it is.
Michael,
Good news and bad news—our editors do not feel this is ready for publication yet but one of our editors is willing to mentor you through it and assist you in bringing it to where it is ready for publication. We would not charge anything for this but would offer our usual contract, (attached). We are a traditional publisher in that we pay for all associated costs. Our contract is a two-year contract, however, we have a kill clause in the event you have the opportunity to place the book with a higher profile publisher.
We pay 38% royalty on the gross of any sales we have control over (i.e. those from our website.) Any sales we do not have control over (from a 3rd party distributor or, if we choose to print your novel, and print sales) would be paid at 50% of the net.
If you want to do this, my editor is willing to work with you—we think the story has potential and would like to help you bring it to publication. We also feel that one of our missions at Swimming Kangaroo is to mentor new writers. We also think you have shown a willingness to work at the art of writing, and we want to encourage that.
Let me know if you have any questions. You are welcome to prowl around our website at www.swimmingkangaroo.com and learn more about us. If you decide you want to publish with us, let me know and I will draft a formal contract for your signature.
Regards,
Dindy
So it has been a cool week LOL! |
