He's the host of Good Eats on Food Network. And, the coolest thing is that he lives right here in Atlanta. :D

I agree, Layne! Finally, someone with a new take on cooking shows. Who'd of thought that it was possible to make the chemistry and physics of cooking funny? I loved the 'behind the scenes" Good Eats special that aired this week but I got called away by a family emergency and missed the second half plus the premiere of his new show - and they haven't repeated them even though the Food Network usually repeats everything.

It's repeating every once in a while. Behind the Eats is on tonight at 11 EST. Feasting on Asphault was very good. I missed it, too. Had to work. :P Try checking foodtv.com to see when it's coming on again.

A new episode will be on Saturday at 9 EST :D

By the way, is anybody familiar with a show called "Cookin' Cheap"? Our PBS station showed it for one summer way back, and frankly I wouldn't have minded seeing more.

Did anyone else read abiut that guy in England ( I saw it in the papers there last year) and he's written a whole book on how to cook roadkill? He actually lives on roadkill, the one that stands out in my mind is hedgehog curry and a sort of stew made from badger.
I'm bein 100% serious here, this guy actually exists!

I read about that guy too, kazzz! His food bill must be practically zero.

Intrepid - If you are talking about the same Cookin' Cheap that I'm thinking of, it was actually produced right here in the Roanoke Valley by our own Blue Ridge Public Television.

It ran for 20-some years with Larry Bly and Laban Johnson. Larry Bly has moved on to other things in the Roanoke area now. Laban Johnson passed away in 1999.

Funny you should mention it ... There was an article not long back in our local paper. It seems there were some rumors that Larry Bly was going to start Cookin' Cheap again with a new partner, but according to Bly in the article, it is just a rumor. He has no plans to bring it back.

Thanks for the tip, Layne. Had to stay up to 2 last night to see it here but it was worth it. Loved "Feasting on Asphalt", too - travel and food, two of my passions! Can't wait until Alton gets to my neck of the woods; we'll see if we have found any of the same diners. It's getting so hard to find anything except chain fastfood places while travelling in the US if you don't have time to get really far off the interstates.

Had a great bit of serendipity last month when, at 6 am, I was desperate for coffee in Kenab, a tiny town in Utah. The last time I was in Utah 20 years before, I got caught in a town, in which, due to the Mormon influence, not a single drop of coffee was available anywhere. So last month, I figured I would be lucky if I could find a cup of dreck at a truck stop but, lo and behold!, I found a bakery open at that hour with my choice of really good coffees and magnificent lemon scones, just hot out of the oven. Yummy....

P.S. What is happening that we have all these shows right now about eating on the "American Road"? No one has ever been interested before on tv about how we eat out here in the hinterlands. Brown's is the best IMO because he also shows how bad the eats can get (and is funny about it.) Rachel Ray started it all with figuring out how you could eat well on $40 a day but then we got Paula Dean's sons and Bobby Flay taking to the road and Globe Trekker doing specials on food.
