Greece-ing My Wheels by pandab on 15 August 2006 1:29am

Bad pun, I know. I couldn't resist. :)

Seriously ... I'm getting closer to my vacation to Greece. After the tour, I'll have 2 days in Athens on my own. I'm getting together ideas on what to do, and I have a couple questions.

First, does anyone know what the public transporation is like in Athens? Any tips? My guidebook says Athens has a subway system, buses and such. Any advice on getting tickets? Are there day passes? My book just says I can buy tickets individually or in a book of 10.

Second, does anyone have any ideas on what I can do in those 2 days. I haven't looked up my hotel yet, so I'm not sure in which part of the city I'll be staying in. The tour doesn't include much in Athens except the Acropolis, where it spends most of the first morning. The afternoon is free.

I know I want to see the National Archaelogical Museum, and the Benaki Museum looks interesting, too. Provided I can find it, I'd like some pictures of the Tower of the Winds.

That's all I've got so far. I imagine the museums will take a good part of a day. Any other ideas?

I very excited! This time next month, I'll be a basketcase. About a week before I travel like this, I get so excited I literally can't sit still. I drive my co-workers insane. :)

Drive your coworkers insane LOL! The crazier you make them, the better your sendoff!! Then again, it sounds as though you make some of your coworkers crazy anyway. Bring back Greek Orhtodox crosses for the religious ones and see how they take it.

Greek Orthodox crosses, hmmm ... Considering I'm deep in the heart of Virginia's Baptist country, that could yield some interesting results!

I figured it would, Pandab, which is why I suggested it, LOL! They could hardly claim you did something "unchristian" though they might. Would be good for you to laugh at with us.

I know. Mom always said I would turn out poorly and it isn't nice to prove Mom wrong.
