Booksigning 27th March by Louise on 20 March 2003 8:10pm
Anybody in Manchester? MP is signing at Stanfords, according to their site.

Echoing my post on the dreaded convention thread, here is the sadly unread and unloved post about the booksigning taking place on Thursday 27th March between 4-5pm at Stanfords bookstore, please visit Stanfords website for details (a quick search for Stanfords Bookstore in Google will yield the right info) and please go if you can, like it says Michael will be signing copies of all his books!!

Did anyone go to this or know of anyone who did ? to let us know how it went - or has anyone contacted Stanfords for a report so that we can put that on the chatterbox for all to read??

I went and wasn't surprised to find that my suspicions were correct. Michael is as nice a bloke as he comes across on his travel programs. He was very chatty and put you at ease so that you were able to have a decent conversation. He also signed whatever you put in front (4 books in my case) and put different messages in each. I'm concerned he thought I was a stalker though as I popped in front of him 3 times (once for book signing, once for a piccie and once when my friend arrived with minutes to spare). Unfortunately he could only sign for an hour so I think things were a little rushed. I will now look out for anything else I can go to to meet him (oops that sounds a bit like a stalker again).
There was an interview the other night in the Manchester Evening News

Kathjoh the stalker? Naaaaa, I don't believe it. You're Kathjoh an admirer of Michael Palin's. [Dianne smiles]
Re: Booksigning 27th March by Diamond on 5 April 2003 4:23pm
If you are a stalker then I must be an obsessed maniac as I have seen him at three book signings and for the last two - I stayed for the whole two hours taking photos all the time - he now knows me by name! You just have palinitis, like the rest of us - it is a very pleasant illness - very contagious - and once you have it there is no known cure!!

did you manage to get a poster from stanfords etc? so glad there is someone out there who went - were there many people apart from yourself?

Did you keep the interview from the evening news - what did it say do tell us - we are very keen for anything MP right now in the uk as Michael is in Canada, then he will be off later on, to start his new series!

keep us posted

Re: Booksigning 27th March by Kathjoh on 7 April 2003 8:16pm
there seemed to be a steady stream of people queuing to have him sign lots of things and take pictures. I never thought to take a camera so I nipped out to boots to get a throwaway and then wasted it by not putting the flash on. so i will now be showing a very fuzzy picture and saying, 'no really that is michael palin and me'! I don't think there was a lot of publicity so I think he did very well with the numbers. His hands must ache after all that signing. I did keep the article, didn't say a lot and nothing new but i'll dig it out and maybe let you know. Didn't spot any posters. What posters?

New Series for MP by jmnh109 on 8 April 2003 12:38am
I am so envious that you all have actually met Michael Palin. I live in Atlanta and to my knowledge he has never been here. Hey, what an idea for a new series! MP in Atlanta, Ga. and I could be his personal guide and assistant to all things southern, like Scarlett O'Hara and MLK and the Braves and Varsity chilli dogs and the list goes on. If he can survive in the Sahara, he could spend a few summer months on Peachtree Street. What do y'all think?
