Vietnam help... by philosophizer on 12 September 2006 8:21pm

I've just started getting my vaccinations, and they should all be finished in 4 weeks time.

What should I do next?!? Do I apply for my visa now? Do I book the flight??

I don't want to book the flight until I definately have the money in my bank that I need to go away.

I want to travel Vietnam for 2 months- the visa only lasts for one! I understand that it is possible to get the visa renewed, but where can you do this, and how likely is it that I will get a renewal??

If I am flying into Bangkok (or Hong Kong), and only staying there for one night, do i need a tourist visa for these places aswell??

Oh, and if I arrive in vietnam on Nov. 1st, and they look at my visa, and notice my return flight is January 1st, won't they start asking questions. Where are you going to go when your visa runs out? where is your visa for the other country??

Finally, do I need a vaccination certificate to take with me??

ps. does anyone know how much a Vietnamese tourist visa costs?? This is all getting too complicated and daunting for me. Please help! I'm starting to panik.

You could do what I once did, which was visit Vietnam, then book a flight to Cambodia from Ho Chi Minh through a travel agency there. Explain to the travel agency that you want to come back to Vietnam, and they will arrange a visa pick-up in Phnom Penh at the Vietnamese Embassy. It worked a treat for me.

I was in Vietnam last year for two months.

You can go on a business visa (say if teaching English etc) his last's 6 months.

If you do not want to organise the visa your self, you can use a company called Travcour - they will charge you for their services. (www.travcour.com)

In all the traveller budget Backpackers, there are travel & Visa companies/services, including visa extensions, so it is fairly straight forward.

As for vaccinations, it is sensible, but not essential to take a copy with you for peace of mind.

If you are a UK Citizen you can enter Thailand for up to 2 months with not visa required.

Lastly, enjoy! It is a beautiful country that is changing rapidly, but hopefully you can still get to experience a beautiful, colourful and historic country.
