  The Chatter Box : Travel
My first time traveling by mylomook on 3 October 2006 5:55pm
I am a 22 year old college student and I have very recenantly started to travel. In my entire life I have never been out of the midwest of Amercia so this is all very new and exciting for me. I started my trip with a day and a half stay in Munchen Germany and walked around the town observing the sites and partaking in Oktoberfest. I am currentantly studying in Salzburg Austria and I am loving it. I have visited some of the near by castles but I am looking for some other destinations of choice. If anyone has any suggestions that would be splendid. I will be in europe until the end of december or the middle of janurary depending on how far I can stretch the money. I have a couple excursions planned for the next couple weeks so if anyone has suggestions for what there is to see or experaince in the following cities it would be appreciated. I will be traveling to london, Vienna, Madrid, Budapest and hopefully check out some places in Romania. I also am hoping I can make my way out to Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Italy while staying here. So i am open to suggestions. I want to make my first stay in Europe a real memorable one.

If you decide to visit Budapest, Vienna or Scotland, you can't go wrong. I've been to all three and loved them all. IS there anything in particular you would like to see or do or in which you have special interest? Are you male or female? That might possibly have a bearling on suggestions from the people here.

I am female. I do not really know what would strike my interest. As I have mentioned before I have never traveled before so it is all very new to me. I enjoy music a great deal. everything from classical orchestra pieces all the way to punk music. I am also a german and english literature major so I want to be able to experiance things that can enrich and broaden my education.

There are two ways to travel. You can relentlessly research and plan out your trip to the nth degree or you can take off and depend on serendipity to guide your trip. I grew up in a family that was inclined to the latter approach (but with a fair amount of research done in advance to keep us out of trouble.)

With the former approach, you can be assured that you won't miss any of the great sites. With the latter, you may end up sleeping uncomfortably in your car or other places a lot and you may miss things that you will really want to go back again to see later but you'll experience things that aren't in guidebooks. It's a matter of personality which way you choose.

However, if you opt for the serendipity approach, make sure you do enough research to keep you safe if you are travelling in "exotic" locales (none really on your list potential destinations right now.) There are lots of guidebooks that will give you the basics of what you need to know. Also, check out university areas of town for good tips on inexpensive places to stay and eat at. I've made some life-long friendships by hanging out at universities.

Enjoy your travels!

For my upcoming trip to Vienna I am traveling with a group and we have been researching the area for quite some time so we are all set on where we are staying and what we are most likely going to see while there. However, the following weekend I will be traveling to Dublin and that was a spur of the moment decision. I foun some cheap tickets and booked them. So me and my travel companion might be in a bit of trouble when we actaully arrive in Ireland.

I went to Berlin in April and thought it was the most facinating city I have ever visited! Going to Berchtesgaden for a week this January, should be fun! Not flying there either so get to spend a night in Koln and Paris going there and back! :) Berlin was fab anyway, Prague is also nice but a bit full of stag parties :(
