The Chatter Box : Blathering On
Long Way Down by Scout on 13 January 2007 7:18am
Has anyone here heard of a planned sequel to "Long Way Around" maybe called "Long Way Down?" I saw where someone had mentioned it while writing about "Race To Dakar" and I was wondering if it was for real, and if anyone knows what it might be about?

Ive heard the rumours about it, but so far its only been that. The idea I guess was to follow the route that the Dakar rally took, in 1992 I think, when it went right down to Cape Town. I doubt very much itll happen now because of the countries that theyd have to travel through.

I stand corrected on my previous post. Just read this on imdb tonight....

Wife To Join McGregor on Bike Trek

Hollywood star Ewan McGregor will be joined by his wife on his upcoming second televised motorbike trip documentary. The Scottish actor and pal Charley Boorman filmed their biking exploits from London to New York, via Mongolia, Siberia and Alaska, for 2004 series Long Way Round - and now they're planning a second journey from the top of Scotland to the tip of Cape Town, South Africa next year. And McGregor's wife Eve has been learning how to ride a motorbike so she can join her husband for three weeks. McGregor says, "Being away from my wife and kids is hard but it's part of the work of being an actor anyway. My wife is very supportive. She'll be coming out for part of the next trip. I have been married for 11 years and she has rarely even been on the back of a bike but she's training to ride and will do the middle three weeks with us."

Hey you guys! Thanks for the news. I enjoyed The Long Way Round. It will be nice that some of the nice scenery will be with them day after day, with Ms. McGregor doing some of it.

What a grind, riding through the stuff they rode. Even a nice gravel road wears a rider down. Nice to have a fat budget and support vehicles and crew!

Hear any rumours about the budget they work with?

I read the book "Long Way Round" Lounge Trekker and I remember they said the budget in there but I'm not sure I remember how much. I think it was about seven million, but that could of been what they wanted, not what they ended up with. I do remember that they had a real hard time selling any tv people on the idea.

That's only $412/ mile for the 17 000(?) miles they did. Not extravagant for a crew of 4, three motorcycles and a car. Or is it? I have no experience with overland marathons like that. Anyone else? Does that include paycheques?

I liked it. I hope we see more.
